Recent baking - bites for visitors

We had some family visit us last week for lunch and I served them platters of bite-sized morsels.

These are caesar salad cups, slow-roast tomato with goats cheese tapernade galettes, and chorizo with beetroot and blue cheese.

Fish course! Smoked salmon blinis, spiced prawns on cucumber slices and, oh yes, more caesar salad cups.

More fish! Crab toasts with a radish salsa, and chorizo with green tapernade and scallops.

The cheese scones here are not bite-size, but should have been. They don't look very appertising, but they are filled with Scottish Cheddar (!) and my home-made pear chutney.

Now for dessert! Strawberry shortcakes, and mango napoleons....

followed by: mini choc eclairs, ginger cheesecakes in polenta cups, black forest bites, and white chocolate opera cakes. These were not proper opera cakes as they were made with normal sponge and only two layers. I have since obtained an authentic opera cake recipe which uses the correct almond sponge. I will try that soon.
and finally - the cakes. These are carrot cake, lemon drizzle cake, Portuguese custard tarts and, at last I've successfully made some canelés! More on my canelés adventure to follow.
